The M6 is the most important route in Staffordshire forming the strategic link to the North West from all southern areas of the country.

The route carries the highest traffic volumes and percentage of HGVs in the Region.

Daily flows on the M6 range from 100,000 to 150,000 on a dual three lane motorways.

The number of commercial and industrial vehicles is generally higher than on other motorways at 45-55%, and the proportion of heavy vehicles is approximately 30%, more than double the national motorway average.
